Hello! I am a third grade reading teacher (with previous experience as a fourth grade math teacher) at an elementary school in DFW. I completed a residency program at Southern Methodist University and earned my Master of Education. I am certified in EC-6 Core Subjects and English as a Second Language (ESL). Athenya is currently a High School Family & Consumer Science teacher. She's also a former Second Grade teacher with fifteen+ years of teaching experience. Athenya was named Teacher of the Year (2018-2019). She received her M.Ed in Instructional Design and Technology from West Texas A & M University. She also participated in an alternative certification program. She’s certified in (EC-4) Generalists and Family Consumer Science (6-12). She's eager to share her expertise with future teachers!
With 15 years in education, my journey to the classroom was the traditional route. I have taught 6–12 social studies, served as an instructional coach and currently am a new teacher specialist. I am passionate about empowering and developing new teachers to support their growth in education.
To begin teaching, Jensy started at an internship that followed a student teach student model to prep students during summer school. Following an alternative path to certification, Jensy studied and prepared with Relay GSE. Currently, Jensy works as an 8th-grade reading and writing teacher, serves as the grade-level chair, and coaches both boys' and girls' soccer teams on her campus.
