*You must be officially admitted to the university and to the teacher certification program prior to your first semester.

This term is called the Pre-Clinical Semester 1 and will consist of 12 credit hours.

You will:

• Focus on completing your intro to teaching coursework.
• Complete 30 hours of hands-on field experiences in local partner schools.

This term is called the Pre-Clinical Semester 2, and will consist of 12 credit hours.

During this term, you will:

• Complete up to 50 hours of hands-on field experiences in local partner schools.
• Continue completing your coursework.
• Begin to prepare for the required state teacher certification exams.

This term is called the Clinical Teaching term, where you will transition to your role as a Clinical Teacher Candidate.

During this term, you will:

• Work in a local San Antonio area ISD classroom under the guidance of a carefully selected mentor teacher.
• Complete six credit hours of coursework focused on teaching content certification.
• Complete the remaining required state teacher certification exams.

• Field experiences connect directly to the courses you will take each semester.
• The university offers different hands-on experiences in classrooms and other learning spaces city-wide, such as HEB Read 3 and Communities in Schools.
• During Clinical Teaching, you will be placed in a local school for one full semester, where you will shadow a cooperating teacher and build up to being able to teach the class on your own.
• The traditional Clinical Teaching model enables you to experience the realities of the classroom with the support from the university and host school, so you're ready for your own classroom.
